Facebook updates Groups as well as how to find them

Introduction

Facebook's Groups feature has been around since the dawn of time (or, at least, Facebook). But that doesn't mean that it hasn't gotten its fair share of updates over the years. In recent months, the social media giant has done away with some of its more archaic features in favor of new tools for admins and members alike. Here's what you need to know about Groups on Facebook:

Re-launching Groups

Facebook Groups is a social networking feature for people to connect in meaningful ways.

Facebook Groups can be public or private, and they can be created by anyone. You can use them to meet new people, organize events, or promote your business.

New discovery tools for Groups

Facebook has introduced a few new tools to search and discover groups.

  • Group recommendations: You can now find recommendations of groups you might like based on your interests, location, and language. You'll see this in the "Discover" tab above or below your News Feed.
  • Group search: There's also a group-specific search tool that lets users easily find active communities on Facebook that align with their passions, interests, hobbies and much more.
  • Search by topic: Finally, if you're looking for specific types of content (be it music festivals or mommy bloggers), there's a new way for users to discover groups via search—and it only takes one click!

Updates to the Groups tab

When you tap the Groups tab, you'll see a grid of groups. Groups will be listed first, and each group's topic will be displayed below it. Group members are last on the list. You can tap any group in this list to get more information about it and/or join it if you're not already part of that group.

Updates to group admin tools

Group admins can now remove group members from their group. To do this, go to the Members section of your Group and click on a Member’s name. Then click Remove from Group next to their name.

If you want to remove someone from the Messenger list or Events list while they're in a conversation with you:

  • Go to your inbox and click on a message thread with them.
  • Click “Remove From This Conversation” at the top right of that thread (you'll see it as a gray X).

Facebook is making groups more useful

Facebook is making it easier for you to find and join groups.

  • You can now search for groups by topic, location and interests from your search bar.
  • Group admins can create events as well as post directly to multiple groups at once.

You'll also see improvements that make it easier for admins to manage their groups:

  • Group admins can create a group post, which will appear in everyone's News Feed with an option to join the group if they're not already members.
  • They can also create a group album, which contains photos and videos that have been shared by multiple people within the community.
  • Group admins will be able to create polls so they can get feedback on important decisions.

Conclusion

If you’re interested in joining a group, there are plenty of options for you to choose from. You can join one of the many groups listed above or search for a group that is relevant to your interests by searching “groups” on Facebook and clicking the “Join Group” button.
